Anacleto de Medeiros (1866-1907) was a Brazilian composer, conductor, and multi-instrumentalist. He studied at the Brazilian Conservatory, where he specialized in the soprano saxophone and also mastered most wind instruments. In 1896 he formed the Banda do Corpo de Bombeiros (The Fire Department Band), which would later produce some of the first professional recordings in Brazil under his direction. In 1904, they recorded Medeiros’s waltz Farrula for Odeon records. Further recordings of his works in 1906 and 1908 were released on Victor. His works include polkas, xotes, and waltzes.
